FINAL EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY: MS. LADUCA’S YEARBOOK

(5 EXTRA CREDIT POINTS)

Over the summer I have given myself the project to create a Digital Art yearbook of all of your projects from the year! This year has been a particularly challenging year for us, yet all of you found your artistic voice to create beautiful artwork. I am beyond proud of the work that you all put into this class, and so should you! If you would like, I would be so grateful if you would write a quick message that I can include in my personal Digital art yearbook!

In a Google Doc, please type out a short message for me. If can be about your favorite project, what you learned, or what ever you would like! Additionally, please include a favorite piece that you’ve created (does NOT need to be from one of our projects this year) and a self portrait. You do not need to create a new self portrait if you have one that you already like!

HOW TO TURN IN YOUR MESSAGE

  1. Please submit a Google Doc or PDF of your typed up message

  2. Submit your images/pieces as SEPARATE .jpg files

THANK YOU ALL FOR A WONDERFUL YEAR OF digital art!

FINAL EXAM PROJECT: PORTFOLIO WEBSITE

DUE TUESDAY, MAY 25 (80 POINTS)

20 POSSIBLE EXTRA CREDIT POINTS

Your final for this year will be to create a digital portfolio of all of the projects we completed this year. I can provide support with these two FREE professional platforms:

  1. https://portfolio.adobe.com/

  2. https://www.wix.com/

You may choose a different website if you would like. Additionally you may add your Digital Art portfolio to an existing portfolio if you wish

Once your website is completed YOU WILL NEED TO PUBLISH! Since we are still mostly remote you will need to submit your portfolio website as a hyper link on a Google Doc. Once you have finished creating your portfolio, Wix and Adobe will give you a free domain to use, and that will be the link you provide for me. This account will be linked to your school email and just like Google, it saves your progress automatically. Now that we have talked about some of the basics of Typography, we will be learning a fun way to create 3D type objects as an art piece! We will be going back to Illustrator to discover some tools that will help us take our type to the next level. Below are step by step instructions on how to achieve this style of type. In addition to the step by step, you can watch the attached tutorial for a visual guide on this process!

Steps:

3D Type Sample.jpg
  1. Open up a new art board, I used a 5x6 inch board

  2. Use the shape tool to create a colored background

    • you can choose to create a boarder or fill the whole art board

    • lock you layer by clicking on the left side of the layer in the layers panel

  3. Select text tool > click once on your board > change the color > choose a BOLD font

  4. Switch to the selection tool

  5. Click the Effect menu > 3D > Extrude and Bevel

    • Play with the position

    • Play with Extrude Depth

** all of these can be changed at a later time if you don’t like what you did

  6. Click the Window menu > Appearance

    • this will give you the window where you can go back and change the effects you put onto you text layers

  7. Duplicate your text layers

    • make sure you are on the selection tool

    • press and hold option (Mac) or alt (PC) and drag your new layer out

  8. Go back to the text tool, change the letter then REPEAT step 7 until you have all of your letters

  9. Play with size, rotation, depth, etc to finish your composition

  10. Fix the arrangement of your layers
