Restaurant Project | Assignment #1:  Marks / Logo

Inspiration Worksheet DUE: Monday 3/14 (20 points)

Finished Marks Due: Friday 3/18 (25 points)

Directions: You are to select the restaurant you want to work with for the entire project. Select wisely since you will be using this restaurant throughout the entire project (you should not switch restaurants as the assignments progress).

In this assignment you will be creating 5-8 different marks / logos that you will submit for review.

Steps:

  • Find 5-8 sample logos that fit your selected restaurant's theme.

→Search for restaurants with a similar theme or environment to your selected restaurant.

  • Draw (Create) sketches of your marks on paper (which will become your thumbnail drawings) that fit the restaurant you chose.

→ you need 5-8 marks for your restaurant

you should make sure that the marks you create fit the theme, style, & overall environment of your restaurant

(ex: a formal, classic restaurant would not have a whimsical, modern design.)

**don’t forget to utilize the principles of Gestalt (see Gestalt worksheet if you forget these principles)

  • Open illustrator and create a new artboard to work on.

  • Place your thumbnail sketches onto your artboard on the lowest layer.

(follow the instructions from below)

  • Use your illustrator tools to draw/create/color your Marks

(these should be black & white for this first assignment)

  • Save your artboard with your Marks as a .jpg file in your Desktop Folder

(follow this format for saving→ Marks1_yourinitials.jpg ex. marks1_KL.jpg)

**Please feel free to come and see me with any questions!

Note: Here’s how you can easily get your thumbnail sketches on your artboard:

  1. Draw your sketches

  2. Take a picture with your phone (or scan using a scanner)

  3. Email to yourself / upload to the desktop  OR  Airdrop to the desktop

  4. Open your email & save your file into your desktop folder

  5. Open illustrator, go to “File”, “Place”, and find the file and enter

  6. Your drawings should pop up. Enlarge or reduce your drawing if you need to change the size.  Begin drawing your marks.
