Instagram Ads (Product or Food)
Due: Tuesday 4/26/22
(45 points)
Living in a consumer based society, we see advertisements EVERYDAY. In our still life unit we have been exploring different ways to create a successful set design of props with new compositional elements. For this project you will be able to choose between two different subjects; a single product or a single dish or food item. The goal is to create a 3 image carousel of product or food items meant as an instagram ad. The main purpose of these images are to SELL whichever product or food you have selected. Instagram is quickly becoming the biggest platform for advertising, cause who even watches live tv anymore?! There are multiple styles of advertisements you see on the platform; influencers promoting products, photographers tagging company’s products and your typical sponsored advertisements. For this project we will be discussing the use of props, backgrounds, target audiences and more to help you create a successful “ad”.
For this project you will be creating three image spread meant for a multiple image post on instagram. The goal is to create a carousel of images that build off of each other that work together as a series.
Decisions to make:
What is your “hero” product or food item?
What supporting props will you use?
What can you use as a backdrop?
What kind of light will you use?
REMEMBER OUR WORKFLOW AUTHENTIC SELF DISCUSSION!!
How do you fuel your creativity?
What theme / vibe are you going for?
How can you connect to this project?
How can you express yourself through these images?
REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH IMAGE:
Select an item that you already own to photograph or a food item that is easily accessible or something you’d like to make
Collect a minimum of 2 supporting props
You can switch out the props you use throughout the three image spread BUT your “hero” item must STAY THE SAME in each of your images
Create a different set design or compositional style in EACH image. You should not be turning in the same image with different edits
Use a NON-DISTRACTING background that adds to your product or food’s story
This is a creative shoot!! Try different angles, different compositions, different props!
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, THINK ABOUT THE LIGHT YOU ARE USING!!!
Stay away from fluorescent lights and try natural window light instead…
