Type Object

Due Monday 4/26

(20 points)

On Thursday, we will begin talking about the basics of Typography! To kick off the unit, we will be learning how to manipulate / warp text in Photoshop into different shapes. This skill will help us later on down the line with different art projects. So let’s get started!

  1. Find and save an object on the good old interwebs that you would like to use as a guide

  2. open up a Photoshop document no bigger than 8x10 inches

    • If you wish to create a square image, do not exceed 10x10 inches

  3. Drag your guide image on your document

    • change the opacity to at least 50% on the Layers tab

  4. Click on your text tool and type out the first word for your project

    • You can choose to change the font to whatever suits your design

    • You can also choose to change the font color now OR use the paint bucket tool later

  5. In order to warp your text, RIGHT CLICK on your text layer > click Rasterize Type

  6. On the top tool bar click Edit > Transform > Warp

    • You will see a different looking box around your text layer

      • This box will allow you to drag your text around to fit your shape guide.

        • Try clicking and dragging the blue dots to see what that does.

        • Try clicking and dragging the inside of the text to see what that does.

  7. Repeat steps 4-6 until you have filled in your guide shape

  8. Lastly, finish up your image with color.

    • If you have not done so already, give your text color

    • Give your image a different color background

  9. Save your image as a JPG file and rename: Type.Object_yourinitials.jpg
